It’s been 2 years since we made our lockdown home movie. It’s crazy how much has changed in our lives since then. In 2020 our lives (all of our lives) were thrown into turmoil. Our beautiful business, that we spent 9 years building, crumbled. Our beautiful plans to spend a summer traveling Europe were tossed in the bin. Our life savings depleted as we went into full survival mode. I lost weight, along with the ability to see the bright side. Looking back on this video I can only feel a sense of pride at how we managed to shelter the kids from the stresses that we were feeling. And even more so I feel an overwhelming sense of pride of where we are today. Because as I type this from our beautiful, peaceful new farm home in Portugal, I now know that this is exactly where we are supposed to be and that this journey (and all the life experiences that were thrown at us - all of us) were necessary chapters in our story. So much has changed - and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🌈
Mom & Dad’s first night off since we moved to Portugal 🇵🇹. What a treat! We ate far too much and enjoyed a gorgeous bottle of 🍷.
As far as anyone is concerned… we’re a normal family…

The newest member of our farm community. She surprised us with an early arrival on Portuguese Freedom Day, meet Liberty. Welcome to the family Libby ♥️🐴 You are perfection!

On 25 July 2016, on a random Monday afternoon it rained in Durban. The roads were flooded and I remember our family sharing images of how we all got soaked leaving work or fetching kids from school. What we didn’t realise was that on that day we would lose a piece of our hearts. When my aunt was driving home from work her car got stuck, she got out her vehicle and was washed away. After 2 weeks of searching, we never recovered her body. The anxieties and the emotions that the current Durban floods have had on my family are raw and real. It reminds us that there are real people behind the images of devastation and many lives have been changed forever. My incredibly brave cousins started a NPO in my aunt’s honour. They continue to aid and assist wherever they can in these kinds of disaster relief situations. They are currently raising money and doing collections to assist the KZN Search & Rescue team. Swipe for more info and remember every little bit counts!
As a photographer in South Africa it started becoming increasingly difficult to find safe locations for family shoots. I would cringe whenever someone would say that they wanted a forest shoot because I honestly ran out of safe locations to recommend. Every week we would hear a story of how a photographer was held up for their gear and we even started seeing some photographers hiring private security guards to accompany them on shoots. In Portugal we have the most abundant and beautiful locations to choose from… from quiet tranquil forests to bright and beautiful fields of flowers. From cobbled streets rich in culture and heritage to balmy beach sunsets (no more waking up at sparrows for a sunrise beach shoot). This place is pure magic 🪄
